Illaiyaraaja’s kind gesture
Visually challenged, deaf and mute Children of Little Flower Convent, Nungambakkam, were inundated with almost four feet of water. The children there were in need of food of water. When music composer Illaiyaraaja came to know about this, he decided to visit the place in person and offer assistance.
Despite being warned of the high water levels and of access only by boat the 72-year-old maestro insisted on meeting the children.
When activist Abdul Ghani warned him of the risks involved, he said, “When children are there, my risk is nothing in comparison.”
He, interacted with the children, sang a devotional song and offered prayers. He also distributed food packets and spent 30 minutes with them.
