Beautiful Pratyusha Banerjee was laid to rest on April 2, one day after she committed suicide at the age of 24. Pratyusha was cremated in Mumbai as friends and family gathered to celebrate her extraordinary life.
Bollywood star Pratyusha Banerjee was given her last rites and cremated in a Hindu ceremony on April 2. The actress’ friends and family, including several Bollywood stars, gathered at the crematorium in Oshiwara, in Mumbai, to pay their respects to their lost loved one, who took her own life at the age of 24 on April 1. It was, of course, a heartbreaking affair.
Pratyusha’s parents flew to Mumbai from their hometown of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand as soon as they received the horrific news of her death, and escorted her body to the Oshiwara. There, innumerable friends of the beloved actress waited, including Bollywood stars like Mahi Vij, Rakhi Sawant, Kamya Punjabi, Ratan Rajput and Vikas Gupta. Naturally, it was a brutal, gut wrenching day, and the grief was obvious on everyone’s faces.Pratyusha hanged herself at her home in Mumbai just one day before this gathering, leaving no note behind. The young, happy, soon-to-be married woman they loved was suddenly gone forever! But their presence at the crematorium was important. There, Pratyusha received the Hindu last rites, the funeral rituals that an individual undergoes before being laid to rest.
Last rites rituals include circling the body with water from an earthen pot, and having the family throw leaves over their heads, without looking back, when leaving the crematorium to pray for good lives ahead. In a heartbreaking detail, Pratyusha was cremated in her wedding gown. She was preparing for her wedding to fellow actor Rahul Singh, 47, and was so excited about the gorgeous red dress she was going to wear. May she rest in peace.
HollywoodLifers, our thoughts are with Pratyusha’s family and friends during this tragic time.
