Sangwan gives Delhi three points

Delhi piggybacked on Pradeep Sangwan’s career-best figures of seven for 38 to secure three points on the basis of first-innings lead over Odisha in the Ranji Trophy Group A match at the KIIT Cricket Stadium here on Monday.
In the opening session, Sangwan captured five wickets at the expense of only eight runs in 4.5 overs to restrict Odisha's first innings to 217 and give Delhi a 94-run lead.
The visiting team declared on 193 for nine in its second essay to push for an outright victory, but settled for a draw when the host was at 88 for three on the final day.
Thanks to Sangwan’s impeccable bowling and Odisha batsmen’s poor shot selection, Delhi sealed the fate of the match in less than 50 minutes. Man-of-the-match Sangwan was happy to have executed Delhi's plans well. “The pitch had good bounce and offered help for the faster bowlers. We had planned to bowl in good areas without going after the batsmen and it worked,” said Sangwan.
Utilising the morning freshness, Sangwan attacked the home batsmen with the old ball and had danger man Anurag Sarangi in the fourth delivery of the day. Sarangi poked at an away-going delivery and returned to the pavilion without adding anything to his overnight score of 76.
Abhilash Mallick made things easier for Delhi by departing in a similar fashion in the next over bowled by Navdeep Saini.
Sangwan continued with his tight line to trap Pratik Das in front and polished off the Odisha tail, comprising Suryakant Pradhan, Deepak Behera and Dhiraj Singh, to complete 150 wickets in first class cricket. The host surrendered meekly, losing six wickets for 22 runs.
Seeing a slim opportunity to grab six points, Delhi scored at a faster pace and put up 193 runs in less than 32 overs. In the process, the touring side lost some quick wickets as Odisha pace spearhead Basant Mohanty accounted for Puneet Bisht, Subodh Bhati and Pulkit Narang to claim his maiden hat-trick. Mohanty, with his six-wicket haul, also achieved another feat by crossing 250 wickets.
Chasing an improbable target of 288, Odisha batsmen held their ground to consume some crucial time and save one point.
